When we usually buy leather bags, we often don’t distinguish the materials clearly. Below, the editor will analyze two aspects for you, and I hope it will be helpful to you.
Distinguish from the feel,
1. Cowhide: Cowhide has fine grain, thick skin, high strength, and good plumpness and elasticity. The cowhide feels tough and does not have strong extensibility. The surface has a strong sense of unevenness and a clear touch. The texture is firm and elastic by hand. When selecting, if you squeeze the leather hard, small wrinkles appear.
2. Sheepskin: The hand feel is softer, the leather board is light and thin, the hand feels soft, smooth and delicate, and the pores are small, which can be stretched. The sheepskins on the market are generally sheepskins or goatskins. Sheep skins are soft and delicate. Goatskin is much stronger than sheepskin, so it is more wear-resistant, but the smoothness is indeed not as good as sheepskin.
Second, distinguish from appearance,
1. Cowhide: The pores on the surface of cowhide are bigger than sheepskin, and it looks rougher. The pores of the cow leather surface are small, round, uniform and tightly distributed, the leather surface is bright and smooth, the texture is plump and delicate, and the appearance is flat and soft.
The pores of cowhide are like stars. They are dense and uneven. They penetrate vertically into the leather and are oval. Generally, there are yellow cowhide, buffalo cowhide and yak cowhide on the market. The yellow cowhide is relatively smooth and has underdeveloped sweat glands. The skin texture is flat and the pores are small and oval. The fur of buffalo hide is rough, with obvious papillary protrusions and wrinkles. The pores of the yak skin are thick and sparse.
2. Sheepskin: The pores of sheepskin are also particularly typical, in the form of “fish scales”, flat and small. Generally, several pores are used as a group. The surface pores are more dense, the epidermis is delicate, and the color is rich. The pores of the sheep leather surface are oblate and clear. Several pieces form a group, arranged in fish scales.
